If you are planning your holiday to Puerto Andraitx, Mallorca, the following information may help by giving you an overview on the resort.
Puerto Andraitx [sometimes known as Puerto Andratx] is one of Mallorca’s classiest resorts, popular with the yachting fraternity and with film starts whose Italian-style villas can be seen on the hillsides. The harbour is one of the prettiest in Mallorca and a table at one of the waterside bars is really the perfect place to people watch.
There is plenty of fishing village charm to Puerto Andraitx and there are excellent cliff-top and forest walks along well set out paths around San Telmo and if you go to nearby S’Arraco, you will come across an estate called Sa Trapa, which used to be the site of a Trappist monastery and which now belongs to Mallorca’s Ornithological Society. The coastal road north of Andraitx to Estellencs is very scenic.
Like many towns around the coast, Andraitx was built some way inland from its port to deter pirate raids. These days, the town is reaping an unexpected benefit – tourists come into the port, spending money which the town collects in taxes. Surrounded by orange groves and almond trees, Andraitx is a sleepy town which only really gets busy on Wednesdays when the streets are taken over by market stalls selling vegetables, cheeses and fish. When you have finished shopping, climb to the top of the town to see the 13th century church of Santa Maria.
